A studio artist for the past ten years. Maggie paints large and small abstract paintings on a variety of surfaces – canvas, paper, mylar, wood, styrene. These works are often richly textured and reveal her interest in a variety of media and painting techniques.

" I am not personally interested in painting as a form of self-expression, but rather in using paint and other materials to express feeling-states or inner experiences that are universal.

In terms of my process, I am an intuitive painter, but I begin a work by dealing with formal issues:

…What will my palette be?
…How will I treat the surfaces…heavily textured or not?
…Do I want a completetly two dimensional look?

I try to allow paint and colour to reveal the meaning they hold.

I often use texture to enhance or partly obscure the content of a piece.

I use scale within a single painting (or within a body of work) to make concrete and visible what is so difficult to articulate verbally.

I believe painting is essentially a meditative act, yet it is also a very physical activity. The search, the effort, is often frustrating, but it is also endlessly fascinating."
